After thirty days of fasting come the glorious moment to enjoy the fruit. It is a victory for those who can carry out the fast without any “incident” and celebrate the end of the temptation.
Lebaran is celebrated by Moslems all over Indonesia with a similar ritual. In the morning, after the head of the family comes back from the mass pray. It is time to ask for forgiveness for all the sins comitted, from parents and elderly people. After kneeling down and kissing hands, the whole family starts to take the special meal of the day called “ketupat”. They then either stay at home waiting for visitors to come or go out to pay visits to relatives and friends.
The euphoria that accompanies Lebaran lingers for days to come, as people with renewed spirits get back to their daily routines, waiting again for next Lebaran to come.
So, let’s go back to our “fitri”
